“Unleashing” means reaching your full potential and surpassing yourself. The passion to achieve and accomplish something, and precisely this kind of “unleashing”, helps Youseline Vital develop and express herself in record time. Vital talks about her talent and what has led her to astonishing heights. Her artistic path is shaped by diverse experiences and her cultural background. In an interview with Vital and our editorial team, we spoke about her life, these artistic values, the deep essence of her inspirations, and her visions. She especially enjoys sewing and crafting with fabrics, sequins, and beads a skill she learned from her father at the age of eight.

The admission to the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

Vital represented Payet Design in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the US and was selected for the 2023 Regional Women’s Entrepreneurs Africa-Haiti Program, where she showcased her skills as one of Haiti’s most admired artists and represented Haiti internationally. She also participated in the Cross Culture Program to broaden her horizons and promote cultural exchange. Her passion for art and self-expression continues to grow, fueling her creativity and allowing her to unleash her limitless potential. She explains where she finds comfort and stress relief, such as listening to music, and podcasts. At first glance, this may seem unrelated to her artistic work, but it is other art forms that give her a sense of peace and tranquility.

Exploring the True Identity of Voodoo – Youseline Vital’s Short, Insightful Perspective and Research

Vital draws inspiration from her surroundings and personal experiences. Deeply rooted in Haitian culture, she is committed to ensuring women’s inclusion in the arts scene and their voices are heard. Her research into the Voodoo religion and its representation in her artwork aims to clarify misconceptions and provide a comprehensive understanding of Voodoo identity. It is characterized by its abstract nature and often defies verbal descriptions of Voodoo religion philosophical standing. When asked if she favored any of her artworks, she says, “I don’t have a favorite piece, but an artist residency at the Berlin Art Institute enabled me to create numerous works of art that continue to inspire my approach and artistic practice.” Outside of Haiti, she sometimes wrestles with feelings of disjunction from her hometown and country. However, the combination of her artistic experiences results in her unique creative style, which often expresses, in her abstract works, a form of understanding and organizing emotions connected to the creation of art and the meaning of home and what it represents.

The deep meaning of the artistic creations of Youseline Vital

Each of Vital’s works carries great meaning. She believes her artwork must reflect reality and find a place in her life. This reflects her experience creating complex works of art with beads, sequins, and thread, meticulously stitching with each element, and carefully selecting colors to bring her canvases to life. She explores hybrid works and abstract painting, combining techniques to expand her creative bounding-line.

Her artistic career has relatively taken off to new heights and numbers, leading her to believe that hard work and her previous achievements in the early stages of her career went hand in hand, and this path has essentially chosen her. At the same time, she cultivates her artistic work and strengthens the platforms she has developed, particularly in Haiti. She’s also committed to leadership development and offers aspiring female entrepreneurs a challenging path to find their voice. This motivated her to inspire others and show them the importance of mastering the craft of her field.

Inspiration from her Haitian roots, visual artists and drawing

Born in the western department of Port-au-Prince, Vital draws inspiration from various styles and movements, including Fauvism, Pop Art, Impressionism, and Abstraction. Artists such as Henri Matisse, Kandinsky, Vassily, Wagler, Pascale Monnin, Tessa Mars, Mirlande Constant, and Mireille Delice are among the artists who have influenced her artistic development.

Her career is characterized by dedication and boundless creativity, and she continually explores new artistic avenues. Her artwork speaks for itself, reflecting authentic emotions and poetic expressions. Each work occupies a special place in her life, ensuring that her artistic output has a lasting impact, as evidenced by her artistic presentation at the “La Historia non-Cantada” festival in the Dominican Republic in 2023.
