The 10 Most Influential Young Haitians of 2024

Amid a year of unprecedented humanitarian challenges in Haiti, ten extraordinary young Haitians have emerged as symbols of resilience and inspiration. Excelling in fields like politics, music, sports, film, and photography, they have brought hope and progress both locally and globally. Mag Haiti proudly honors these under-35 changemakers whose influence has been nothing short of remarkable.

Melchie Dumornay (21): Known as “Corventina,” Dumornay has become a global sensation in women’s football. She made history as the first Haitian to play and score in a UEFA Women’s Champions League match and was named CONCACAF Player of the Year 2023-2024, a first for a Haitian and only the second for a Caribbean player. Ranked 29th in The Guardian’s Top 100 players, she is also a nominee for The FIFA Best 2024 in the attackers’ category. Representing Olympique Lyonnais, she continues to elevate Haitian sports on the world stage.

Joverlein Moïse (32) : The eldest son of Haiti’s late president shocked many by venturing into music, releasing his debut single, “ Sa w wè a se sa” . With his natural talent and ability to blend rhythms, he quickly gained recognition. Hits like “ Girls” , “You Make Me Happy” and a standout performance on Colors have expanded his reach to English-speaking audiences, proving his resilience and ability to reinvent himself beyond his political lineage.

Yves Joissaint (35) : Better known as “Ontikozeakpeace,” Joissaint is a TikTok influencer battling cancer with courage and determination. Despite his illness, he continues to inspire his followers, sharing life lessons and advice. His October fundraiser raised over $50,000 to support his treatment, rallying thousands of young people and shining as a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity.

Samuel Frantz Suffren (32):A rising star in Haitian cinema, Suffren has won numerous accolades for his short film Des rêves en bateaux papiers, including the Best Short Film award at the Tirana International Film Festival and the France Télévision Award. His film, now qualified for the 2025 Oscars, has received special mentions at festivals in Canada, Switzerland, and Denmark. This marks a new milestone for Haitian filmmaking, and Suffren’s work continues to spotlight the country’s talent on the global stage.

Bedjine (26) : Marie Bedjine Love David, known simply as Bedjine, remains a leading figure in Haitian music. With chart-topping hits like Konsekans and M ap ret ak tèt mwen, she continues to captivate audiences. Her album Misyon Akonpli, a collaboration with K-Dilak, has solidified her place as a powerhouse in the music industry, while her magnetic stage presence keeps her fans coming back for more.

Fatima Altieri (31) : After releasing her first EP Enspirasyon, Altieri’s career faced setbacks, but she returned stronger with her album Pwoteje m. Hits like Hello and the music video for Prije m revealed a new, more confident side to her artistry. Now one of the most streamed Haitian artists, Altieri’s transformation underscores the power of perseverance and reinvention.

Youven Beaubrun (22): Performing as “Bevenslameur,” this young poet has elevated Haitian slam poetry to new heights. Representing Haiti in international competitions in France, Belgium, Mexico, and Togo, he secured sixth place at the 2024 Slam World Cup. His performances, fueled by passion and commitment, have brought Haiti’s voice to the global stage.

Odelyn Joseph (32) : A trailblazer in photojournalism, Joseph has captured the struggles and resilience of Haitians through his lens. With nearly 2,000 images published by the Associated Press, his work documents gang violence, natural disasters, and everyday life. His talent earned him second place in two categories at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar 2024, cementing his reputation as a visual storyteller of global significance.

Stéphanie Sophie Louis (23) :As President of Haiti’s Youth Government, Louis is a dynamic force in Haitian politics. Her participation at the UN General Assembly in 2024 alongside former Prime Minister Garry Conille highlighted her dedication to civic involvement. A political scientist and eloquent speaker, she embodies the potential of Haiti’s youth to lead with vision and patriotism.

Marc Chender Barthelemy (28) : In Grand’Anse, Barthelemy is synonymous with innovation and community impact. As founder of ImpacTech and organizer of the “Ann Pale Teknoloji” and Motivational Salon on Entrepreneurship events, he has empowered countless young Haitians through training and mentorship. A leader in both business and civic engagement, his initiatives continue to drive progress in Haiti’s southern regions.

These ten individuals embody the resilience, creativity, and leadership needed to inspire a brighter future for Haiti. Against all odds, they shine as proof of the potential within the nation’s youth.
